The last days were spent on biking to the Great Wall and hiking along there.
Was about 70km to the wall and took me the better part of the day on the old chinese bike.
on the way back the front wheel decided that bearings are a 1st world luxury it could do without. So I walked through the mountains and hitchhiked the roads. Then the weather seemed to be changing drastically. So it has been raining a bit yesterday. Leaving the bike and taking the bus home seemed the best solution.
Soon enough the bus seemed to be troubled by the rain, or maybe I should say that everything got troubled by the rain. The bus was creating small tsunamis when going trough knee deep puddles. And then everything stopped. The highway was standing still, not moving an inch. For Hours I was sitting, looking and reading. Then it got dark so the reading was over and I started to get impatient, as were many others.
So we walked, through knee deep water between hundreds of stranded cars. A caravan of people walking over the shoulders of the highway trying to find the least deep spots and helping eachother past big streams, caring stuff and kids. Everybody seemed very okay with it, laughing and smiling and using the little english available to make some conversation. It took two hours of walking trough the dark to get to a place where some buses could drive again. so we got on a cramped bus for the last bit.
I was home around eleven, everything wet. My camera is still drying.
Today the news is that at least 10 people didn’t survive yesterday. Whow..
